State approves transformation zone plan for Navarre Middle School

The Indiana State Board of Education approved the South Bend Community School Corporation's transformation zone plan for Navarre Middle School.

The school corporation had the options of closing the school, changing it to a charter school or creating a transformation zone. The school corporation voted in favor of the transformation zone on Monday.

Navarre failed the state accountability grades six years in a row.

The state approved the South Bend school district's initial plan in March. Their final plan was due on April 10 and was approved Wednesday.

This is the first transformation zone in South Bend.
