Two men pose as cops, invade home with guns before leading police on chase

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Around 7:30 a.m. this morning, St. Joseph County Police responded to a call for a reported home invasion, at the 19900 block of Adams Road, west of 933.

The caller reported two white males, armed with a handgun and rifle, identified themselves as County Police Officers before they forced entry into the home.

The caller identified the suspect's vehicle and police were able to stop the two suspects near Brick and Hickory roads. The driver, 36-year-old Jason Learman of Elkhart, was arrested but the passenger jumped out on foot and ran as the car was coming to a stop.

"Officers and K9s pursed the fleeing suspect through the woods and homes to the South and West of Brick and Hickory but lost the trail of the suspect near the intersection of Cleveland and Ironwood roads," SJCP said. "Swanson school was placed on lockdown as the pursuit moved towards the school, and that lockdown has been lifted."

County Police are still searching for a white male approximately 5'7" tall and 160 pounds, last wearing blue jeans and a blue jacket that fled from the vehicle.

Learman was booked into the county jail on preliminary charges of Robbery, a level 5 felony, Theft, greater than $750, a level 6 felony and Impersonating a Public Servant, falsely representing as a law enforcement officer, a level 6 felony.

Police say they are not sure if the suspects made away with any items or valuables from the house.

All suspects are presumed innocent until convicted by a court of law.
